Research on the aerodynamic drag reduction performance of boat tail devices on tractor-trailers began in 1980 with NASA funded wind-tunnel and full scale coast-down experiments which showed that boat tails were effective in significantly reducing vehicle drag.  This finding is also supported by other more recent research published in the literature which has focused on the effects of different boat tail configurations on aerodynamic drag.

We have compiled and presented here the dozens of third party tests and academic research reports published regarding the effectiveness of TrailerTail® technology in reducing the fuel consumption of class 8 heavy vehicles.

In all credible TrailerTail® fuel efficiency testing conducted to date, the minimum reported fuel efficiency increase has been 3/10th miler per gallon and the maximum reported fuel efficiency increase was 6/10th mile per gallon with average savings of 4/10th mile per gallon.
